CCR Refinery celebrates 95 years of history and reaffirms its commitment to Montréal's East End

MONTREAL , Oct. 2, 2026 /CNW/ -- This year, Glencore's CCR refinery is celebrating 95 years of operations in the heart of Montréal-Est. To mark this milestone, CCR is reaffirming its commitment to the community it has called home since 1931, through more than $250,000 in planned social investments in the East End in 2026 and two open house days on October 3 and 4.

CCR 95th Anniversary - Our Team

For nearly a century, generations of employees have helped the refinery evolve and ensured that Montréal-Est remains home to a world-class industrial facility. Today, CCR Refinery provides more than 500 direct, skilled and long-term jobs and spends more than $400 million annually on goods and services, with nearly half of that spending going to Quebec suppliers.

CCR Refinery also plays a strategic role in Canada's only remaining integrated copper processing chain. By refining copper into high-purity cathodes, it helps supply a metal that is essential to electrical infrastructure, transportation and the technologies that power the world today and tomorrow.

"For 95 years, CCR has been a fixture in Montréal-Est and part of the history of many families whose members have worked there for generations. This anniversary is an opportunity to celebrate this legacy, thank our community for its trust and reaffirm our commitment to the future. Through our role in in Canada's only remaining integrated copper processing chain and our active presence in the community, we are proud to help power the future every day," said Marie-Pier Bédard, General Manager of Glencore's CCR Refinery.

A commitment reflected in concrete action

In 2026, CCR Refinery plans to make more than $250,000 in social investments in Montréal'sEast End, including through continued partnerships with Marché public de Pointe-aux-Trembles, Action Secours Vie d'Espoir, the Fondation de la persévérance scolaire de la Pointe-de-l'Île and BougeBouge.

As part of its anniversary celebrations, CCR Refinery will open its doors to the community on Saturday, October 3, and Sunday, October 4, 2026.

Visitors will have an opportunity to tour the refinery, speak with employees and learn more about how the metals refined there are used in everyday life, from electrical grids and transportation to smartphones and medical equipment.

The weekend celebrations will be an opportunity for CCR to thank the Montréal-Est community for its trust and share the refinery's history and expertise while highlighting the women and men who have brought it to life for 95 years.
